The Scottish Government has published a new eHealth strategy to support the Healthcare Quality Strategy for NHS Scotland. The strategy is committing to better integrated health and social care IT over the next 6 years, giving patients increased access to health services, and improving support for people affected by chronic diseases. The document outlines five new strategic aims to be the focus of its activity over the next six years:-
- use information and technology to maximize efficiency and savings;
- enable people to communicate with NHS Scotland;
- contribute to care integration;
- improve the availability of information;
- improve the safety of people taking medicines.
Part of NHS Scotland’s e-Health Programme, the strategy is the second that the Scottish Government has produced on e-Health, and has taken a wider view of benefits and outcomes than the first strategy, which focused more on technology, products and suppliers.
