100 Things To Do In Scotland Before You Die!

    Hi Folks,

This is a little article I read in The Herald back in 2004 - see the attachment above. I have been slowly working my way through the list and some of them are truely amazing! Just thought that this might be of some interest to all you adventurers out there and anyone who plans on making a little visit to Scotland.....

Let me know if you have done anything on the list or if you have any fun suggestions which don't appear on the list?

    My personal top 10 are (in no particular order);

    1.       See a band in the Barrowland - this is a must!

    2.       Go to a Highland Games - fun day out and lots of men resembling extras from Braveheart.

    3.       Go to a traditional music festival on an island - don't forget your cider and thermals!

    4.       Go to a ceilidh at the Riverside Club - requires a certain level of drunken fitness.

    5.       Feed a Highland Cow - I once found a herd of Highland cows when I was camping in the Highlands and they are as cute as buttons!

    6.       Bag all the Munros - I reckon this one is going to take me a while.......

    7.       Spot a mermaid - I trekked to Sandwood Bay on one blustery Autumn day but it was so worth it and I managed to hitch a ride back to the main road from a shepherd and his Land Rover.

    8.       Tour the Highlands on a motorbike - planning to do this before next summer....BBRROOOMMM!!!!

    9.       Boo and hiss at a Pavilion panto - cannae beat it!

    10.       Burn a Viking longboat - Again lots of men resembling extras from Braveheart.

    and one for luck............

                11.    Discover the Holy Grail - Indiana Jones eat your heart out!

Interesting post. I wonder what people who aren't from Scotland, and better still, from outwith the UK, think of this!

    1. I've been to a few gigs at the Barrowlands...
    2. I've walked over the heart of midlothian but didn't spit on it.
    3. Been to the races - Hamilton races (my home town)
    4. Been to the Barras market.
    5. Been to Glasgow School of Art (students' union)
    6. Had many a night out in Glasgow
    7. "Loop the loop" on the Clockwork Orange... well I've been on it quite a few times if that counts.
    8. Eat haggis and clapshot... well I've had lots of haggis, neeps and tatties - but no Chives in it...
    9. Did "Strip the willow" at a ceilidh or two (as well as school I'm sure)

    That's it!

    Anyone else?

It doesn't count if you don't do the full circle in a single journey.

There's also the Underground Pub Crawl. Take the underground, get off at every station, find the nearest pub, down a pint and back to the Underground. This usually automatically gets you qualification for the original loop the loop as at some point you're liable to collapse, unconscious, in a heap on the train.

Let's get even more specific. The number one thing to do in Glasgow is visit the Ashoka Restaurant in Ashton Lane then sample the culinary delight that is haggis pakora. Any client who has ever dinned with myself can testify to its greatness.
