The Anthony Nolan Trust - Katie is still searching for a lifeline

Katie Currie (pictured above) from East Kilbride is one of 7000 people who urgently needs a bone marrow transplant. She has Leukaemia and you could be the only person to offer her the chance of long term survival.

On the 21st, 24th and 25th of June the Anthony Nolan Trust will be holding open clinics for anyone who wishes to join the Bone Marrow Register in the Glasgow, Bellshill and East Kilbride respectively.

All that may ever be needed from you is a small sample of blood, but you never know, you may turn out to be a matching donor – with the same tissue type as a patient. It will cost you nothing to join the register, but not acting quickly enough could cost someone their life. Please join the register and offer someone, somewhere, some hope.

If you are aged between 18-40 years, in good health, weigh over 8st (51kgs), have a BMI of under 35 and are willing to help save the life of any patient then you may be able to help us offer a lifeline to patients like Katie.

On the 10th of May the Trust held a recruitment clinic in East Kilbride. If you attended this clinic and were unable to have your blood taken due to limited resources, you should have received a kit. Please bring this along and your blood can now be taken.

You could save the life of someone like Katie.

    Clinics:

Saturday 21st June 2008 - Pollokshields Community Centre, 15 Kenmure Street, Glasgow. 12.30pm-4pm

Tuesday 24th June 2008 - Noble Primary School, Shirrell Avenue, North Road, Bellshill. 4pm-8pm

    Wednesday 25th June 2008 - Holiday Inn, Stewartfield Road, East Kilbride, G75 5LA. 6.30pm - 8.30pm

Just to let you know that the EK clinic took 174 bloods last night. A great turn out and fantastic show of support for Katie, her family and everyone involved and dependant on the Anthony Nolan Trust. There will be more clinics organised and I will keep you updated, would be great to see some of you at future clinics!

Are there any future clincs people can attend in the fight to save Katie? I used to Work for Katies Grandparents in their pub and knew the family, I was very sad to hear about Katie.

All Anthony Nolan clinics will help Katie and the thousands of other people awaiting a donor. It is the one register that is maintained by Anthony Nolan Trust. We are friends of the family that are assisting the Anthony Nolan Trust with clinics close to where the family and friends live and using Katie's story to raise awareness.

You can go along to any Anthony Nolan Trust clinic and register and your details will be added to the donor register and you will be checked as a match against Katie and the thousands of other people waiting for a donor

We will be organising future clinics and will post details here but please don't wait for us, the Anthony Nolan Trust are constantly holding clinics so please go to their website and attend one of the events listed - www.anthonynolan.org.uk
