As has been the case with just about every other 'defect', I am still being told the same thing - this is an upgrade in the latest build.

This is no longer an acceptable answer - indeed, it has never been an acceptable answer.

Gael would appear to be expecting their customers to fork out for new server equipment, just so that we can get a Q-Pulse that actually works? I don't think so.

Simply put, if we can't get a system that works properly, then we will go elsewhere to get it.

This latest 'defect' comes in the most basic of all functions - Admin module, to find out the latest usage from a user. Having received a reply which basically suggested that it was 'our' fault that the defect existed, I am less than pleased with the service......

.........and look forward to a more appropriate reply.

Hello again Ken,

As mentioned, you are running an old build of QPulse5.

To resolve problems or enhancements in any build they need to be programmed into later builds. Unfortunately in this case you are running the last supported build in a Windows 2000 environment all future builds are for Windows 2003 onwards.

QPulse5 is a Microsoft based product therefore we need to stay up to date with Microsoft so they will actually support us. QPulse uses Microsoft .Net Framework and the latest version of this is v3.5 SP1 which unfortunately is only supported on Windows 2003. Microsoft do not support Windows 2000 any more since Service Pack 4.

Windows 2000 and .Net Framework v1.1 is very limited, for all the new QPulse features we required to move with Microsoft to the latest Framework.
This change of not supporting Windows 2000 for QPulse v5.5 onwards was well publicised during 2008, at user groups, mailings and even on the Gael Community, see following link;

http://www.gaelcommunity.com/blogs/gael_news/archive/2008/05/21/q-pulse-5-5-preview.aspx

And for v5.6 we have posted the requirements;

http://www.gaelcommunity.com/blogs/gael_news/archive/2009/02/10/are-you-ready-for-q-pulse-5-6.aspx

Again this is not a QPulse issue but a failing with your environment. The problem lies with your servers Operating System not the hardware.

I have to say Ken I'm a bit like. It seems that the only answer we rae getting now days from the support team is "Upgrade". I have complained to them about that but they say it's the only way to sort out any problems. I'm running 5.51 so it shouldn't be too bad but still there are some problems and i have no intention to upgrade my system at the moment. So i feel a bit frustrated.

Lets put this simply:

Does it work - fully? No - afore mentioned defect.

Should the customer have to fork out £000's to get it fixed? Absolutely not!

Do Gael appear to be willing to assist? Would appear not.

Is the customer happy - NO!

I am not interested in agreements with Microsoft - I want my database to work as it is suppoed to!

When an issue is reported to Gael the support team will investigate the issue and offer a solution. We pride ourselves on the high reputation we have in the level of service we offer to our customers and are always willing to assist with issues, even those not related to our software.

Where the issue is identified as a defect then they will endeavor to offer a workaround until the defect is resolved. If the defect is caused by a fault within the code of the product then the only way to truly resolve the issue is for us to release a product update which would require your Q-Pulse to be upgraded. I would also like to state that if a fault is reported in an older build and resolved in the current build then I would hope that you can appreciate that in order to resolve support will advise to upgrade your version of Q-Pulse as it is not possible for us to resolve these defects without upgrading.

In the case of Q-Pulse v5.210 in order to resolve some of the issues found and to include customer requested enhancements Q-Pulse had to move to the MS .NET 3.5 framework as they could not be coded with the MS .NET 1.1 Framework. As Colin has explained this version of .NET doesn't support Windows 2000 therefore requiring an operating system upgrade (software update not hardware therefore not costing £1,000's).

I would also at this point like to re-highlight that version 5.6 will be the final release of Q-Pulse to support SQL Server 2000 as stated here http://www.gaelcommunity.com/blogs/gael_news/archive/2009/02/10/are-you-ready-for-q-pulse-5-6.aspx.

I would be interested in any other customers viewpoints on the upgrade process and level of service offered by Gael.

Just to clarify.

The problem that we had was a defect in the V5.21 software.

Following discussions with the Gael team, we have managed to get this particular issue resolved, through good, effective support from the technical team, and from the account manager.

Thanks to the team, for your assistance, and hopefully we can go forward as discussed, later this year.
