    Business Continuity Management (BS25999)

There are increased signs that insurers are requesting companies comply with BS 25999 to help reduce risks and therefore potential payouts. Adopting this BS goes a long way to achieving those requirements. Some companies are already well prepared for the unexpected disaster, with a comprehensive Business Continuity Plan in place, but does that BCP meet the requirements of BS25999? For companies who have not implemented a BCP, it can never be to early to start planning for this evantuality. What can QPulse do to assist the user in their efforts. Could BS25999 be incorporated into QPulse, so that the organisations themselves ask the right questions, plan audits accordingly and have suitable CAPA plaqnning built in, running alongside the more common 9001:2000 e.t.c.

Could BS25999 be incorporated into QPulse?

Q-Pulse can definately be used to manage compliance activities related to BS25999. Part 2 of BS25999 (Specification) follows the PLAN, DO, CHECK, ACT structure that fits exactly with Q-Pulse's core design.

At the outset you will PLAN your Business Continuity Management System, this will include documenting the BCM Plan, creating procedures for Risk Assesment, Internal/External mobilization procedures and Emergancy/Fall-back/Resumption procedures, these are just a few of the many controlled documents which will play a vital role in ensuring your BCMS is implemented (DO) in accordance with your plan.

The audit module within Q-Pulse will enable organistions implementing BS25999 to monitor and review the BCMS (CHECK) and when necessary, highlight actions that need to be taken when non-conformance to BS25999 is identified (ACT), in turn supporting continual improvement.

It doesn't stop there. Q-Pulse can also be used to manage the training programme that is required by BS25999 and in addition the Asset module can also play a part in managing the test schedule.

    Hi Neil,

Yes I have seen increased discussions regarding BS25999. This months Quality World magazine has an interesting article on the standard and how more and more organisations are looking to implement Business Continuity. There are various ways which Q-Pulse may be able to assist in managing this standard, through standard checklists and scheduled audits.

Please feel free to contact me and we can look at this standard in more detail.

    Gregor

Hi, Yes, Q-Pulse can be used to fully develop a robust Business Continuity system.

We are in the final stages of development, and have been able to use the Customer, Suppliers, Documents, Training, and Audit modules to develop a structure that works for us - essentially placing our entire plan throughout the databse.

Additionally, we have placed Q-Pulse as the first software system to be rescued, in the event of a disaster. KB

Gregor, does Gael have any Standard checklists for this BS or indeed ISO 27001 that can be easily incorporated into the QPulse checklist library?

    Guys,

If you're interested in all things Infosec then I'd recommend that you keep an eye on www.itgovernance.co.uk. I've read quite a few of their books and they are excellent. Also know their owner and he adopts a very business-based approach to Infosec.

    Gregor,

If you reply again (or go back and edit your post), there is a tab called "options".

Within that tab, there is a button called  "add/update". Clicking that should let you brose your computer and attach a file to your post. That way, people can download it from this forum thread and it'll save your email outbox!

I could also add this sort of thing to the forthcoming Downloads section.

Keep up the good work! Yes

PS, nice to see you using the tagging feature, Helen!
