Support portal problem

Hi Dan,

I'm having a problem when submitting new cases via the support portal;

Hitting return whilst entering text into the "New case details" memo causes the case to be submitted. Therefore I have to enter my question as a single longggg line of text!

Any ideas?

Today I am not able to post any messages into Q-Pulse Pre-Release Preview group forum. Last message was posted more than 1hour ago and haven't appered in forum yet. Pending message notification appeared when message Sent.

Dan, I'm still having a problem posting to the community. For some reason all of my CR/LFs are stripped. Therefore this six line post ends up as one continuous line. Any ideas? Andy

Tip of the month - your thoughts

Hello all,

I'd like to find out what you, the Community users, think of our tip of the month. We've had four so far with another due to be published on the 1st June.

Have you seen the tips? Are the tips useful? Are they detailed enough and do they cover the sort of things that might actually help you? Is the placement of the tips correct/noticeable?

Every time I try to use the Support Portal I get a message asking me to add our G number & Key number to my profile. These numbers are already there. Can you resolve this for me please.

Perhaps I'm missing it totally but I can't find a quick link to Gael Ltd. Strikes me as being a bit of an own goal. Could I suggest this as a quality improvement suggestion.

I wanted to double check all the functionality offered by Gael (that I don't necessarily use yet etc) to allow me to comment on Q-Pulse on another forum asking about electronic QMS.

Apologies if it is present ... but it isn't obvious!

Can you explain how this feature works on the "community"

Is it an automatic update or does it depend on Gael staff viewing the activity. It presently (Easter weekend) reads all forumites as (0) even after I've posted a couple of messages.

Also how quickly does the tally run for? daily / weekly?

Q-Pulse feature requests and ideas

Some of you suggested that we improve the way that we use the Community to log and track feature/enhancement requests and customer ideas.

Would you be interested in commenting and voting on feature requests? For example, you could have the ability to promote or demote suggestions as seen here and here.

As you can see, we have a Gael blog, Industry News, a Community Blog and many discussion forums in the community to start with. Over time, we would like to tailor this to the users needs.

Is there something you expected to see that isn't there?

Or do you have an idea and would like to suggest it?

Attachment file types

I tried to send a pdf file as an attachment and found that it was not one of the approved file types allowed. That seems odd, especially because I can make any doc or xls file much smaller by converting it to pdf. Can pdf files be added to the allowed file types for attachments?

Issues with the website and action taken

Below is a list of issues/bugs that people have identified and are on my "fix-list":

In "edit my profile", a user cannot enter a web address inot the website field. (fixed)
It seems that you have to put http:// before any web address entered.

When searching blogs and no results are found, 2 search fields and buttons are displayed.
Have asked for support on this problem.

One person has had difficulty sending an email to community@gaelquality.com
This is being investigated, but it seems to be a one-off case.

Partners cannot access Partner-Zone (fixed)
Permissions have been amended.

Incorrect message shown when posting a comment on a blog post.

Community tips: Avatars

What's an avatar?

Have you noticed that some people on the forum have a picture next to their posts and by default, you only have a grey silhouette image?

This picture is your avatar - if it's the grey image, you don't have one.

Avatars are a way of standing out from other users and make it easier for people reading forum threads to distinguish between posters.

The only rule concerning avatars is that they have not to be offensive to other community users. If in doubt, ask first.

How do I add an avatar?

Once you are logged in, click on the "Edit Profile" link on the main (light blue) navigation bar. Click on the 'Avatar' ta.

Make sure you have avatars enabled by clicking the "yes" radio button.

To upload a picture/image from your computer, click on browse, navigate to your desired image and click "open.

Important - click "update" - this should add the avatar to your profile.

If you want to link to an image that is on another website, type in (or copy and paste) the URL of the image into the Avatar URL field and select save.

Suggestions for avatars

You could...

Use a photo - could be of yourself, could be of somewhere you've been - up to you!

create a South Park style avatar: http://www.sp-studio.de/

create a Simpsons style avatar: http://www.simpsonsmovie.com/main.html (click on create your Simpsons avatar)

create a "WeeMee": http://www.weeworld.com (I think you may have to sign up to get one)

Community Tip: Quoting previous posters

If you are making a post in an existing forum, you often want to reply to a previous posters question. If that persons post is not the last post made, it can be difficult to let people know you are replying to that particular poster.

Example:

User 1: Hi I'm Dave.... anyone else work in the Healthcare industry?

User 2: Hi I'm Mike... I'm in the Aviation industry...

User 3 : Hi I'm Jim, I'm in the Food industry

Me : Welcome to the community!

User 4: I'm from the Healthcare industry too, User 1.

User 4 can specifically make his reply to "Dave" by using the quote feature.

Reply to the Dave's post by clicking on the button on his post.

You will be presented with the reply page. Above the message box, you should see the previous post in a grey box.

You can quote all of this post by clicking the button. This will add some code into your reply. Alternatively, you can highlight a specific sentence or word by highlighting the desired text. Hitting "quote" will only quote the highlighted text.

The following post shows what quoting a sentence looks like.

Tags and Tagging posts

What are tags?

A tag is a (relevant) keyword or term associated attached to a piece of information (like a forum post, blog comment or download) and enables keyword-based classification. For example, when I was writing a blog post on the Q-Pulse product roadmap, I entered the tags "Q-Pulse, Roadmap, Product Roadmap 2008, 2008, etc". It is good practice for users of the community to tag their posts. It helps make the post more searchable (by populating the tag clouds seen in the forums), and helps with users populate site searches.

Creating Tags when Writing a Blog or Forum Post

When writing a blog or forum post, you will see a Tags field under the maintext area you have typed into, and above the post button.

Fill in keywords related to your post in here, seperated by commas or semi-colons.

Add or edit tags using the Edit Tags Menu

Navigate to one of your existing posts and select [Edit Tags] from the "Filed under:" sectionbelow your post.

This opens the Tag Editor:

This loads the current tag information for your post. You can then add tags or edit existing tags.

View Posts using Tags

To view blog or forum posts that use the tag you can click on the tag name on the popular tags cloud (seen below) on the main Forums page, or click on a tag in the "Filed Under:" section underneath an existing blog of forum post.
